Ready to take reading and writing skills to the next level? Literacy Lab is a dynamic, high-interest intervention course designed to help students master the foundational skills needed for success in high school and beyond. This blended-learning experience combines adaptive technology with personalized coaching to build students’ confidence in fluency, comprehension, and academic writing.

To ensure the appropriate level of support, students are placed in this course based on their previous reading intervention history, course performance, and standardized assessment results.

Course Objectives:

  • Adaptive Learning: Use an interactive Student Application that adjusts in real-time to students’ specific needs, focusing on tackling "word-attack" strategies, complex vocabulary, and strategies to access complex text.
  • Workshops & Rotations: Participate in a mix of whole-group lessons, independent reading of authentic texts, and small-group coaching sessions tailored to students’ goals.
  • Real-World Connections: Engage with media and texts that build the knowledge and critical thinking skills required for college and career readiness.

Literacy Lab is a key part of our commitment to preparing students for post-secondary opportunities such as enrollment in a university, enlistment in the military, or employment in a career or technical education field. By focusing on individualized growth and evidence-based instruction, this course directly supports the division’s goal to Challenge and Support Each Student to Excel. Students will develop the "Future-Ready" attributes—such as critical thinking and effective communication—necessary to become a lifelong learner and an engaged citizen in our global community.

Counselors are available to assist parents and students with course selections and career planning. Parents may arrange to meet with the counselor by calling the school's counseling department.
